WIDE DISTRIBUTION

CATTLE BOUGHT-AT FAIR 2000 FOR OTHER DISTRICTS Nearly one-third of the cattle offering at the Matawhero spring cattle fair, which concluded yesterday, were purchased for delivery to outside districts. Waikato and Hawke’s Bay buyers were operating freely, and between them they secured approximately 2000, those from the south securing the greater number. The outside purchases were out on the road this morning, headed for their respective destinations. In addition to the Hawke’s Bay and Waikato buying, small numbers were secured for the Wairoa and Bay of Plenty districts. The total yarding at the fair was almost 6500. A larger entry was anticipated. but in view of the great flush of feed during the past few weeks a number of owners derided to retain many cattle that otherwise they would have sold. It has been suggested that another fair should be held next month to cope with any further supplies that might come forward.

Values were somewhat disappointing. In view of the stendv demand privatelv and prices paid in these deals, a higher range of prices than those actually received at the fair was exuded. It was believed that there would have been a sii hi improvement on the level of las' autumn, hut this was not realised, and the range of prices was approximately the same.
