LAST YEAR EXCEEDED
GISBORNE SHOW ENTRIES LIKELIHOOD OF NEW RECORD Entries received by the Poverty Bay A and P. Association for its annual Show to be held on October 25 and 26 already have exceeded last year’s total of 2357, which was only 174 behind the record established in 1929. Yesterday was a particularly heavy day, approximately 1000 entries coming to hand, and, by the time these were dealt with and counted last night, the progress tally had been brought up to approximately 2300, or only about 50 short of last year's grand total. The anticipation that the difference would be made good by mailed receipts this morning was borne out, and at an early hour this year’s figure had reached over 2400. an advance on last year’s final count. The secretary, Mr. W. E. Chamberlain, and his staff were still dealing with late arrivals of entries throughout to-day, and it was hoped that before the final ■count is made a new record will be established, for many more entries not to hand yet are believed to be on their way. The increase in the entries this year has been helped by the addition of classes for the Women’s Institute, and also a section for flowers, while splendid sup port has been given to practically all the old-established sections.
