One of tho stewards, Mr. 11. Hudson, Was stricken with pneumonia, nod lay delirious in bis bunk, while the engineers were called on to get every last ounce of power out of their motors in the hope of reaching Auckland ip time to save his life, but the Ardenvohr lost the race. When she arrived at Auckland yesterday, and berthed at King’s wharf, Mr. Hudson was rushed to hospital too late. His condition was then too low', and he died at 10 o’clock this morning. empty ship on her first trials. Mr. Hudson was only 21 years of age, and is believed to have been a single man. His home was in Liverpool, and he signed on in England as a wardroom steward.
