H MEETING OF COUNCIL |v.~jfc,t the monthly meeting of the W«iiapu County Council, held at To Bui a Springs, the following were present:— Cra. D. W. W. Williams, chairmim, M. Hyland, R. G. Sherwood Hale, HMI. Fairlio, F. R. Jefferd, O. T. Williams, V. G. H. Rickard, .T. Woodford, and A. W. Kirk. Leave of absence was granted to Or. .1. Busby. -A **< dmuuri Ration was received from thinPolnmissioner of Transport to the effeetr that representations had been jSfjuJc to the Government that heavy motoi- vehicles owned bv farmers anl used solely for the transport of the individual* farmer’s produce and »upr plies be exempt from the payment of tteiavy traffic fees and that he would be . pleased to have the views of the council on those representations in order that the matter might be placed before the Minister.—The council expressed
itself as nof being in favor of any exemptions. A ratepayer wrote asking that portion of the Mahora road be metalled.— It was decided to reply that the work could not be carried out at present. Tho Commissioner of Unemployment wrote, advising the allotment of funds to the Tokomani Bay and Euatoria districts. —Received. A letter was received from the Takapuna Borough Council in connection with the New South Wales Interest Act, 1931, It protested against the action of the Government in not availing itself of the provisions of the Act.—-Tlic council supported the. protest. The district engineer advised tha" the Highways Board had considered the district council’s estimates and liad decided in view of the financial position that there was no option 'but to reduce the estimates to bring the totals within the previously announced cash allocation for the 'district.—Received. The closing of the Takapau-Waipiro road was sought by a number of ratepayers.—lt was resolved to close the road on the provision that, the applicants ’bore the .cost relative to the action. Consideration was given to the application of several ratepayers in the Tapuwaeroa riding to have the boundary altered so us to include their properties in the Awanui riding. The county clerk was asked to investigate the financial aspect of the case and to . report.
