FACTORY FIRE
SPORTING MATERIAL DAMAGED SYDNEY, May 7. Damage to the extent of £IO,OOO was cagsed by a fire which broke out this morning at the factory of Slazongois (Australia) Ltd., sporting material manufacturers, in Crown street. When the first engine reached the scene dense smoke was issuing from the top windows of the factory. The doors were smashed in, and hoses were soon playing on the flames from every available quarter. The fire had a good hold of the inflammable stock on the first- floor, and the firemen were hampered in their work by dense smoke. Most of the stock on the first "floor was damaged by fire and water. The ground floor was saturated with water. The cause ot tlie tire is a mystery. The firm for some weeks lias been working at pressure to cope with orders on hand, and two shifts have been employed. The night, shift finished at 2 a.i11., and when the foreman made an inspection of the factory everything was in order. Over .120 employes will he thrown out of wOrk.
