£20,000 MISSING

COMPANY SECRETARY IMPRISONED ADELAIDE, March 11. Herbert Miller Haines, company secretary, was found guilty of having stolen three cheques, of a total value of £2710, from Fischer, Copley, and McLachlan, Limited (now Fischer and Copley), of Adelaide. In the Criminal Court to-day he was sentenced to four years ’ imprisonment. Mr Justice Angus Parsons described tin' case as one of the worst that had ever come before him. Haines ha t been guilty of a iseries of thefts while serving as secretary of the company. The defalcations totalled £20',000, according to th(> auditor’s Statements.
