STREAM-LINED BULLETS TERRIFIC VELOCITY CLAIMED LONDON. Nov. 23. A sporting cartridge, with si reamlined bullets and the terrific muzzle velocity of nearly 4000 miles an hour—twice tlie initial velocity of the ordinary magnum high-velocity ammunit ion—-has been perfected by a German, Or. Gcrlic.li.
The invention follow® Jenglhy experimenting with ultra-high velocities. Ihe bullets arc stream-lined, and provided with a “ghost” head, in which a light framework supports a tip ol gilding, _ The metal envelope contains 100 grains of a special nitro-eollulose powder, with a velocity of 5800 ft. a second. It is estimated that- the bullet will travel 200yds in one-tenth of a second, in which time an animal aimed at, it moving at 20 miles an hour, would only have covered 3ft., compared with a usual velocity occupying a quarter of a second, in which a similar target would move over seven feet. The invention enables allowances lor a moving target lo be reduced to a mini mum.
