A QUIET MEETING

MR, LYSNAR’S LAST SHOT MAJESTIC THEATRE FILLED The sitting member, Air. W. D. Lysuar, .Independent Coalition candidate, tired his last .shot in the -Majestic Tlie,at re last night. The meeting was probably one of the quietest that Air. I.vsnar has ever addressed, amt the chairman, Air. A. Wade, had no need to call the ■audience to older. The theatre hehl every elector whom the lire .superintendent would allow inside, and the crowd overflowed on to Glad'S'.one road, where these who were unable to gain admission found shelter under the verandah opposite

;lie thentre lo follow fhe address by means of the loud speakers installed mi Die balcony. Ah hough the amli■neo was made iof all classes of the

immunity, with a large proportion of

he Laimr cleuieii 1, the meeting was remarkably free from interruptions, and tin 1 several members of the police force who'were posted .round the walls were no t called upon to take any part.

There were few interjections, and those that were made were pointless and lacking in •humor. In fact, it would almost appear that the Labor members of the audience, well knowing how Air. Lvsnar thrives on heckling ami opposition, were, determined to hold their feelings in check, and give the candidate no opportunity to display his gift of repartee. There was only one man in the audience who made any serious attempt to heckle the candidate during the early stages of ithe meeting, but he was repeatedly howled down, apparently by the Labor electors, with cries of “Shut up,” “Throw him nut,” and “Chuck him outside.”

A little more spirit was shown, however, when question-time was reached, and the candidate was repeatedly asked what he intended to do for the relief of unemployment and distress. Even at that stage, however, there was nine applause than criticism. When Air. Lvsnar was referring to the reason why there wars no ofticial Coalition candidate for Gisborne, one member of the audience'shouted: “Billy Coleman will put the 'tag’ on you to-mor-row,” to which Air. Lvsnar 'promptly replied: “Yes, the winning tag,” a round which was greeted with aeelamaUOll.

The candidate having given Iris answer to the last question, Mr. J. Mouait proposed a vote of thanks, and was promptly counted out. Tho motion was seconded by Mr. J. Kinder, and was carried with loud applause, which effectively drowned the cries of tho opposition. The meeting concluded at 10.20- pan.
