WORLD’S RICHEST RACE
OWNER WHO WON £18,540 The distinction of being the owner of a horse which three years ago won the wealthiest race in the world belongs to Mrs. E. S. Hobson, of Ventura, California, who wins a passenger on the Malolo, which arrived n't Auckland on Sunday. The horse was Crystal Pennont, which in 1928 won the Coffroth Handicap at Tcajuna, Mexico, earning for its fortunate owner a purse of £18,540, at that time the world’s record stake.
This race haji 'lately been .transferred to the course art Agua Caleieuti, Mexico, and last year the stakes wore worth no less than £22,000. Airs. Hobson’s estate, Rancho Casitas, embraces 7500 acres of mountainous country, on which she maintains-from 200 to 300 horses, which are bred for polo and hurdle racing. The ranch is managed by her son-in-law, Air. Walter Hoffman.
