Mr. K. D. Andrews, the New Zealand lawn tennis star, who has been in a London musing home undergoing two operations on his nose and throat, has almost completely recovered. Ho left the nursing home at the end of October and spent his convalescence in the country with friends.
To-morrow's half-holiday will ho the occasion of an inter-club lawn tennis match between teams representing re sportively Te Ifapara and Mangapapa clubs, the To Hapara, team having been nominated as tinder: Mesdames Henderson and Drown, .Misses K. Benson. E. llacelie, Torrie, and B. Benson, and .Messrs. .Mowat, Sutton, Hepburn, Rickard and Jetine. Mrs. Hopkinson and Mr. MoNah have been selected as emergencies. The games will be played at the Mangapapa courts. A round of applause greeted Mr. Iv. »S. Williams’ reply to a question put to him at Whakatane, reports the Press. The question was: Are you in favor of State lotteries? Mr. Williams replied that personally he could sec no objection to them. The people were all more or less horn gamblers. The art unions being sanctioned by Parliament practically amounted to lotteries, it was better to have the money circulated in our own country than allow it to be attracted to other countries hy means of lotteries.
The Minister of Native Affairs, Mir Apirana Ngata, visited t lie Hairini native settlement, near Tatiranga, last week, accompanied hv Mr. Tui Mitchell, chairman of the Arawa Trust .Board, in connection with Ihe proposal to develop the Kaitimako block, an area of about 700 acres near Hairini, on the east coast main highway. The ..Minister inspected the area and announced his intention of proceeding with the work. Ho intimated that a start would he made in clearing the block. II is estimated that the scheme will give employment to about 30 natives for about 12 months. The Kaitimako is the only block to be dealt with at present, hut with thal scheme accomplished the development of other blocks should follow.

The correspondence included appeals front distressed members which received much sympathy from the members, and steps were at once taken to assist them. A special vole of thanks was passed to the lodge surgeon, Dr. fl.
