The Governor-General arid Lady Bledisloe arrived in Dnhediii yesterday. They will remain there until -Saturday, when they will return north. The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Beauchamp, of Wanganui East, was quietly celebrated recently. Mr. T It. Bloomfield, accompanied by Mr Willis, is visiting Iris station at Whalatnlu. Mrs. G. It. Bloomfield and her daughter, Miss .locolvn Bloomfield, are. staying with Mrs. T. B. Spence, Whatutulii. Mr. C. F. 8. Stubbs lias been appointed junior clerk in the oltire. ot the Borough Council. A total of 49 applications were received for the position. In Ihe House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. W. B. Taverner was granted three'days’ leave of absence on account of urgent public business, and Mr. lau Henan! two days on account of continued illness. Advice lias been received that Brigadier Cottrcl. of Auckland, has been appointed to command the Central North Division of the Salvation Army, with headquarters at Palmerston North, m succession to Majoti IJcasv,.who left for Australia some time ago. Staff Captain Hayes of Wellington, will succeed Brigadier dottrel. Formerly well known in New Zealand, Mr. H. Ik Stark, who has retired from the service of the Bank of New South Wales, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Burns-Philp steamer Morinda. on Monday. When Air. Stark retired recently 'from the hunk’s service he was manager of the Hunter’s Hill (Sydney) branch. He joined the bank at Gisborne in 1882. Mr.' Stark, who is accompanied by Mrs. Stark, will spend about four months in New Zealand. They will leave Auckland in February for au ex-, tended tour of the world Mr. W. ,1. Hunter, of Christchurch, who appeared as counsel in u case before the Arbitration. Court yesterday, returned to Gisborne after an absence, of 25 years. Before entering the legal profession lie bad followed an educational course, and for some years was headmaster ol the .Mangapapa school. Air. Hunter bad a wide circle of friends in this district who have followed his subsequent career with interest. He moved first lo Levin and then lo Christchurch, where he soon attained a high _ standing in his profession, being retained in many important cases, bin Hunter took the opportunity during his brief stay in Gisborne ol renewing acquaintances and was warmly welcomed by many old friends. ..
