The New Wool Clip
CHEARING was becoming fairly general in tho Gisborne district last week when it was interrupted by the most unseasonable conditions. A start has now boon made in some of the larger sheds, and before, long those operations should bo ill full swing. . . . The fleece is coming off in remarkably good condition, a distinct injprovement on that bf last season, when the weathor left the early clips very light ih grease. This year tho wool is bright and clean, generally speaking, and present indications suggest that the clip should be fairly heavy. It is fortunate that the week-end storm did not come at a timo when ii large number of stations had their shorn sheep out. Not many were affected, and in those instances the flock-owners had sufficient warning to have tho shorn animals returned to tlie sheds, or otherwise placed in sheltered positions. By this means, mortality among the shorn flocks was obviated.
