London newspapers unanimously acclaim Mr. Noel Coward’s pageant play, “Cavalcade,” produced at Drury Lane. Tt traces English development from the Boer War to 1931. The performance of the Australian singer, Strellla Wilson, was praised.
The Chambers of Commerce in South Australia are agitating for an immediate -eduction of per cent, in the tariff. The co-operation of similar bodies throughout Australia is being sought on the ground that trade expansion would follow reduction.
Frosts swept through South Australia’s best vine-growing districts on October 10 and destroyed between 50 and 70 per cent, of the crops. The damage is difficult to estimate, but in the Bagossa district the loss is assessed at about £50,000. There is little hone that the vines will recover. The only vines which esi-ajied were those planted on hillsides. Many of the Smaller growers have iost everything.

Alexander Mclntosh, who was picked tij) off Moernki on Thursday morning after having .been 45 hours at the mercy of wind and waves lashed to the cabin of his launch, was a naval rating in the North Sea during the war, and he probably owes his life io the training which lie then received. One of the lessons taught in the Navy is how to lash oneself to a floating object as a means .of preserving life when overcome hy exhaustion, and it is apparent that ho applied his knowledge to good effect when his launch was damaged and the deckhouse was washed overboard.
