MATAWHEEO STOCK SALE TO-DAY’S OFFERINGS The fortnightly sale of stock at the Matawhero yards, under the supervision of the Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association, was held to-day with a- fair attendance of stock men. The morning session was devoted to the disposal of a good entry of fat stock, and stores were not dealt with until after the luncheon adjournment. FAT CATTLE An entry of 56 fat cattle was recorded, bidding being quiet. Well-finished Hereford bullocks made £7 ss, and others of fairly good finish £5 12s 6d to £6. Cows sold from £3 10s to £4 15s. Prices.—One good heavy Jersey cross cow, £4 15s; 6 good bullocks, £6 ; 3 good young Hereford cross cows, £4 ss; 4 good bullocks, £5 12s fid; 9 Hereford bullocks, solid and well-finished, £7 ss; 6 Hereford bullocks, £5 12s fid; 1 cow, average condition, £3 10s; 1 light-grown cow, £2 2s 6d; 1 vealer, 255; 2 big Jersey bullocks, £5 7s 6d; 1 good Hereford vealer (p), £l. FAT SHEEP. The entry of fat sheep totalled 530, and a good, even sale took place. Extra good ewes from Air. J. Duustan, The Willows, topped the market at 10s fid; other good pens made 10s, and average Jots sold from 8s to 9s Bd. Shorn ewes realised 6s fid to 8s 3d; first-class wether hoggets, woolly, made 10s lid, and good shorn hoggets 8s 9d. Good woolly wethers made 12s sd, and second-grade ewes from 6s to 7s 9d for woolly lots, and 4s 7d to 5s 8d for shorn lots. At the sheepskin sales 5700 hales were offered, including 1260 from New Zealand. The bulk was sold at good prices. Compared with /September rates, Australian- merinos and finest crossbred combilig were 15 per cent, dearer; short wooletl low crosbreds were neglected; New Zealand combing crossbreds'were 10 per cent, dearer. DAIRY PRODUCE MARKETS Butter prices this week remain ap. proximately on a par with those of last week, although with a wider range between the highest and lowest quotations. Haigety and Co. have received the following advice from London dated October 22:—“Butter.—The market is steadier. Quotations: Danish, 136 sto 138 s; New Zealand finest, 113 s to 120 s; Australian finest, salted and unsalted, Ills to 113 s. Danish, nominal. The wide range in New Zealand quotations is owing to new and old season’s on the market, and the scarcity of finest grade. Cheese.-—The market is slow. Quotations : New Zealand, white 64s to 665, colored 66s to 68s; Canadian, white 66s to 68s, colored 67s to 695.” Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil Fields, N.L., have received advice that all shares forfeited for non-payment of the seventh call will be sold in Melbourne on November 4. The eighth call of 6d per share has been declared due on November 11. Murray, Roberts and Co. are in receipt of the following advice from London : “Sheepskins advanced 15 to 20 per eept.” The Sydney Stock Exchange has suspended two mining companies from quotation until they comply with section 203 of the Companies Act. This section provides that a balance-sheet shall be presented at a general meeting at least once every year. The. companies involved are the Bismarck Range (New Guinea) Gold Exploration, N.L., and St. Aignan (New Guinea) Gold Lodes. A loss of £5214 on the past year’s workings is revealed in the annual report of the directors of the Fielding Farmers’ Freezing Co. No provision has beep made for depreciation.
