CHURCH ENTERTAINMENT
SALE OF WORK AND CONCERT A successful effort to raise funds for the' rhuri h was made yesterday by the Knox Church Ladies’ Guild, Maugapapa, when a sale of work was held during the afternoon, followed by a concert in the evening. The stalls at the sale were well patronised, and the proceeds totalled about £24. Everything was attractively arranged with large supplies of goods, reflecting creditably on the efforts of the president, Mrs. W. J. McCliskie, and ether guild members. Those associated with the sale of work were: Produce stall, Mesdames Skillen, Foster, and Schwabe; vegetables, Mesdames Grant and Lloyd ; fancy goods, Mrs. Lowden, Misses Hudson and Gordon Work stall, Mesdames McCliskie and .Thom; sweets and cakes. Mesdames Bull and Harrison; refreshments, Mesdames Marshall, Davidson and Cousins and Miss IT. Kirk. The conceit programme, which was arranged by Mr. J. . Carringiton-Wellby, provided excellent entertainment, and all performers were loudly encored by th« large audience. Tho programme was as follows:—Two-part song, “The Lament.’ 1 junior choir girls: baritone solo, “Cos I Were Shy.” Mr. Grundy; soprano solo, “Carillon,” Miss Holmes; mezzo solo, “Lullaby,” Miss Fisher: contralto solo, “Rothsny Ray,” Mrs., Skillen; comedy sketch, “Brojpleastim?.” Knox scouts; mezzo solo, “The Old Spinnet,” Miss Peterson: recitation, “A Song of Fourpence.” Master Murray ; duet, “Lcn e and War,” Messrs. Nicholson and Weliby; basso cant-ante solo,. "An Ereskav Imvelilt." Mr. Carrinton Wellhv : recitative, “He Foil Among Thieves,” Miss .Davies; bass solo, “Go to Sea,” Mr, Webber; mezzo' soprano solo, “T Heard You Go Rv,” Miss Walding ; tenor solo, “Maeooshla.” Mr Nicholson: duet, “Go Pretty Rose,” Misses Peterson and Holmes: soprano solo, “Mary of Arpvlo.” Miss I Finlay; humorous trio “A Little FantO Messrs., Nicholson. Weliby, and Webbrir. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Schwabe. At the conclusion of the entertainment the Rev. Chas. Lowden thanked all those who had holned. and spoke highly of the efforts of the ladies on behalf of the rimwh. finances. He also thanked Mr Wellhv for organism® the concert, and xt,. a CoMvabe for playing tho accompaniments.
