WAIROA SUB -UNION MEETS JUNIOR PLAYER PENALISED (Herald Correspondent.) Tlie weekly meeting of the Wairoa Rugbv sub-union- management committee, held on Mondav evening was Largely devoted to the discussion of l omestic business, there being no rep--sentative games in the near future. Hie delegates discuss'd with much in- ■ crest the display given bv (he Wairoa team against- the strong'East Coast fifteen on Saturday in the Barry Cup challenge match, and the congratulations of the meeting were conveyed both to the Fast Coast union in respect 'f Ms win in that match, and also to die selector and representatives of the Wairoa district in regard to the class of Rugby played in defence of the cup.
There wore present at the meeting Messrs (. R. Sainsliurv. chairman, A. L Anderson. A. G. Nolan, IF. Hut"hinson, J. Prebble. T. French, C. L. Malone, R. Goodlev, J. S. Wilson, and d. Regarding the knock-out competition now in progress among the senior clubs, it was decided that the proceeds be divided equally among the dubs nominated, with the exception of a special allowance for Hie team which visited Wairoa for the final match on Saturday, August 8. The free list was entirely suspended for Hie duration of this competition, with the object of assisting the finances’of the clnhs.
A sub-committee was set up to make arrangements for the transport of the third grade representatives to Gisborne for their forthcoming match with the Poverty Bnv thirds.
Messrs. Kai anbury, Prebble, and French were appointed to represent the sub-union in co-operating with tho referees’ and hockey associations, in the mater of a special entertainment for charity. Fixtures for Saturday were drawn as under: —
Seniors.—Old Boys v. Pirates, on No. 1 ground, Wairoa, at 2.45 pm.; Mnliia-Morei-e v. Nuhaka, in Nuhaka, at 2.30 pan. Juniors. —Old Boys v. United, on No. 2 ground, Wairoa, at 2 p.m. Thirds—Pirates v. W.D.H.S. Old Boys, on No. 1 ground, Wairoa, at 1.30 p.m. BLACK AND WHITE SHIELD MOTU DEFENDERS CHOSEN To defend the Black and White Shield against the challenge of the Waikohu sub-union representatives, the Motu suliuiiion selectors have named the following team : Fullback, G. Thomas; three-quarters, MeTavish, 11. Leggett, .and K. Judge; five-eighths, F. Peddle and W. Munro: halfback, McDonald; wing forward, R. Mortlcman; hookers, R. Moore and Beets; lock, Swarhrick; sides, G. Mortleman and Scholium; back row, F. Thomas and Jackson.
Tho personnel of the team is the seme as that which met the Poverty Bay juniors just over a week ago, and won the shield from them. On their own ground, the Motu men should ho hard to heat, and it will tax even the good team nominated by the Waikohu sub-union to take the shield away.
