A. AND P. SOCIETIES

CONFERENCE DISCUSSIONS CONDITIONS FOR SHOWS j (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., last night, i The North Island A. and P. associations, in conference to-day, re-elected Mr. J. M. James (Masterton) president; Messrs. H. B. Stuckey (Dannevirke); and J. T. K. Mitchell (Auckland), vice-presidents; Mr. M. A. Conway (Manawatu), treasurer, and Messrs. McLaren (Masterton), Ross (Wanganui), Sandilands (Fcilding), Richards (Levin), Vile (Marton), Washer (Ilawera), Lever (Tauranga), and Nelson (Whangarei) to the executive.

It was decided that once an entry was made and printed in ;i catalogue, no substitution of another animal should be permitted. A remit was carried defining a hogget for show purposes as a sheep born after July 1 and shown up till December 31 of the following year. It was agreed that an exhibitor holding a purebred animal under lease be recognised as the owner for tlie time being for show purposes. A remit recommending the lionpublication of judges’ names- prior to tlie closing of entries led to a lengthy discussion in committee. On tlie question of licensing sideshowmen, Police Commissioner Wohlmann being present, the following remit was carried: “That, in view of the strongly expressed demand by associations for police control of sideshowmen, tlie Government be urged to pass legislation for the purpose of licensing them under police control.” It was decided to standardise the fat cattle classes so that entries could compete at each show without being re-grouped, thus enabling exhibitors tb move from show to show with the'least trouble.

It was agreed that two-tooth sheep bo eligible for all sheep championships at all shows held after December. The meat board is to be asked to give consideration to the promotion of a competition amongst A. and P. Associations throughout New Zealand for frozen iambs to be staged in London.
