PLUNGE OVER CLIFF
STOLEN CAR WRECKED A taxicab which was stolen from Auckland on Monday was discovered ■arly on Tuesday morning, smashed eyond repair at the foot of a 100 ft. lift" at Orakei. The vehicle, was owned ;y Mr. J. T. Mantell, of Herno Ray The plunge over the cliff was ob. erved by a resident, who declared that he car was not occupied at the time, le saw it standing at the edge of the liff, facing the precipice, with (he. ights burning. While he watched, mother car 'pulled up in a nearby street. The taxi moved slowly toward he cliff and toppled over. As the wit« ■ess rushed io the foot of the cliff to ffer assistance in the event of anyone eing inside, the other car started off ;iid disappeared. A tangled heap of wreckage met the esident's gaze when he arrived at the eehe. He noted that the hand brake as off. and that the petrol tank was mpty, although there was no leak. Inide the car was a lady's purse, eontainug a receipt and an address in Sydicv.
The wrecked vehicle was insured for :iSO in the Hartford office.
