The Bugatti zig-zagged wildly. Thousands, lining the banking breathlessly watched Sir Malcolm Campbell desperately lighting to keep the car on the track, one side of which was high banking, over which a fall would result in almost certain death. Crowds were packing the rails. The car careered perilously for at least half a minute, when Sir Malcolm Campbell, with a terrific effort, regained control.
