THEFT OF MOTOR-CYCLE

DRUMMOND SENTENCED NINE MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT Found guilty of the theft ox a motorcycle, the property of Norman Tail, Clifford Drummond was sentenced to-day by Mr. Justice MacGregor to nine months’ imprisonment. Mr. U. B. Hill, for the accused, commented that Drummond was only a lad of 22 years, hut had been convicted of theft in Wellington and had served three months. Counsel appealed for probation, saying the offence was not a •serious one, the accused believing be had'a right to take the cycie and endeavor to sell it. No one else could sell it, and no doubt Drummond believed that if lie could talce.it and sell it.he would be a good friend of the owner, Tait.

The Crown Prosecutor, Air. F. W. Nolan, said the lad’s parents were respectable people. Had this been the accused’s first offence, His Honor said, he would have considered extending, probation, but in view of the previous offences he could not do so. The probation officer’s report was hot creditable. Tho accused was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment.
