ADDINGTON MARKET FAT SHEEP EASIER FAT CATTLE DECLINE. (P«r Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At the Addington stock market today substantial declines in values were recorded in both the fat cattle and fat sheep sections, that in the former being the most severe this season, reducing values to a. lower level than for many years. Store sheep.—The entry of store sheep was not. as large as at the last, sales-, and that of adult sheep was especially small and inferior in quality generally. As a result of this, the adult sheep sale was a dull one throughout. (Store lambs sold firmly ar, last week’s rates. Values were: Best rape lambs 7s I’d to Ss Id, ordinary rape lambs 4s 3d to Os, backward and small lambs to 3s 4d, best halfbred wether lambs to 8s 2d, good four-tooth Romney ewes to 14s ewes to 7s, backward 2-tli crossbred 3d, medium 6-th halfbred ewes to 10s 4d, backward 2-th halfbred ewes to 8s (id, sound mouthed ewes to 4s 3d, aged and backward ewes. Is 2d to 2s 8d; aged and backward ewes and lambs to 2s (id. Fat lambs:—The fat lamb entry totalled 4400 head. The quality was only average. The sale was conducted on mu'cli the same basis as that of last; week. Fat sheep.—The fat sheep entry was 3600 head, and 1 slieep were drawn from within the province. The sale was a dispirited one, and there was an easier tone ruling 1 throughout t. he auction. Wethers declined in value by up to 2s a head, and ■wes by up to Is (id a head. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to 20s Id, prime heavy wethers 16s to 17s G«l. medium wethers 13s to 15s Gd, second quality wethers Ss to 1 2s (id, light wethers to 7s Gd; extra prime ewes to 13s 4d, prime ewes Os Id to 11s Gd, medium ewes 6s Gd to Ss Gd, light ewes 4s Gd to 6s, aged and inferior ewps 3s to 4s. Fat cattle.—The entry of fat cattle was 574 head, easily the largest at an ordinary sale this season. There wore no cattle from outside sources. The sale was dull throughout, and the easing was the sharpest for a long period. Cows and heifers eased by El I Os to £2 a head and steers by £2 to £3 a head. Over the whole sale the drop brought values to a lower level than has been known in Addington for a great many years. There were many passings and withdrawals. Best medium-weight prime beef made from 29s to 33s per lOOlbs., and in the case of only a very few pons was the top figure exceeded or oven equalled. Heavy beef made from 23s to 27s per lOOlbs., cow beef from 21s to 255. secondary beef from 18s to 21s, and rough down to 15s. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £ls 7s fid, prime heavy steers £lO lo £l3, prime medium weight steers £7 10s to £lO, medium quality steers £5 to £7. light steers to £4 10s; extra orime heifers to £ll 7s Gd. prime heifers (£7 to £9. medium heifers £4 to £6 10s, light heifers £2 10s to £3 10s, extra prime cows to £lO 7s Gd, prime cows £6 10s to £8 10s, medium cows £3 10s to £6, light and aged cows £2 to £3 ss. Venters. —There was only a small ontrv of vealers, and the general quality of those penned was below the average for the markets. The sale opened at. rates which wore about 5s Gd a head above those ruling last week, and remained firm at that level throughout the auction. Heavy calves sold ,poorly, however. The top price for the sale was £5, Values ' were: Hun hers £3 10s to £5, best: calves 40s to 60s. medium calves 25s to 355, small and inferior calves 7s to 20s. Store cattle.—There was a medium Varding of store cattle of mixed quality. The market was easier in sympathy with the lower prices for beef. Two year old steers made £4 10s to £5 ss: Hereford calves to 30s: mixed sex calves to 20s; fresh cows to £3 10s; 18-month heifers to ,32s 6d ; and potting hulls to £ss 13s 6d. Dairy cattle.—The entry of dairy cattle was 45 head, ns compared with 65 head at last week’s market. .Tito average mialitv of the yarding was good, •and included some very prime

heifers, ono of which secured tho top price for the market, £ll 15s. There was no quotable change in values, but. the market showed a tendency to firm as the. sale progressed. Values were : Good second and third calvers £9 to £11; medium second and third calvers £7 to £8 10s; aged and inferior £4 to £6; good heifers to £ll 15s; medium heifers £7 to SLB lCs ; backward heifers £5 to £6. Fat pigs.—There was a medium yarding in the fat pig pens, with choppers mi small supply. Trices were easier all round. Values were : Choppers to ,C 4 13s 6d; baconers 50s to 555; heavy 57s 6d to 67s 6d ; extra heavy to £3 19s - 6d; average price per lb. to 5«. d; s porkers ,31s 6d to 37s 6d; heavy 43s 6d i to 46s 6d; average price per lb. 6<l to , 6Jd. ~ Store pigs.—The yarding of store pigs ~ was smaller than last week's, when the offering was n particularly heavy one. WESTFIELD SALE BETTER DEMAND TOR SHEEP \ PRICES UP Is TO 2s A HEAD (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. At the Westfleld sale to-day ox beef i was penned in larger numbers than last week. The demand did not improve and values again eased. Lightweight steers realised £6.to £7 10s, Cow and heifer beef came forward in lesser numbers than last week, and here also values cased. Prime heavy young- cows and heifers realised £7 2s fid to £B. medium cows and heifers £fi 2s fid to £7, lighter prime £5 5s to £6, light prime £4 to £5 2s (id. other killable cows £2 7s (id to £3 17s fid, extra choice ox 27s per 1001 b. choice and prime ox 21s to 235, prime young cow and heifer 24s to 2fis. ordinary cow beef 12s to 235. Sheep were penned in lesser numbers than last week, tho quality being first class.
