CAUGHT BY MACHINE (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, .this day. ,As a result of a harvesting accident which occurred on Air. 11. J. Gluyn’s property at Grassmere a fortnight ago. Janies Smyrl, 30, a single man, died in Wairau Hospital. When mowing grass a team started to move off and Smyrl rushed to cheek them, but was knocked down in the path of the mower blade and dragged about SO yards. A child on the machine had the presence of mind to ■pull the knife out of gear, but the steel fingers of the guard struck Smyrl on the head and back, fracturing the skull. Acute infective meningitis set in, with fatal consequences.
