TOBACCO INDUSTRY A public company having as its objects the culture and manufacture of tobacco in New Zealand was registered in Auckland this week. The three principal subscribers are established companies having their headquarters in the Auckland Province. The new company, which is named Amalgamated Manufacturers, Ltd.; has a registered capital of £200,000 in £1 shares, of which £4600 has been subscribed. The principal subscribers are the United Tobacco Corporation, Taurangia, Ltd., the Tauranga Tobacco and Citrus Co., Ltd., and the Standard Tobacco Co., Ltd., each of which has 1000 shares in the 1 new venture. Other subscribers are Jamies Boddie, company director, of Auckland; Harry Arnold Robertson, merchant, of Auckland; and Willianv John Lyon, merchant, of Auckland, 500 shares each • and Patrick Keegan, farmer, of Auckland, 100 shares. It is almost three months since the egg market underwent a change, and stdl there is no movement, the wholesale price remaining n't Is Id per dozen, and the retail at Is 4d. Even with the approach of Christmas the market showed no tendency to rise. Merchants state that supplies have exceeded the demand for some time, and as,the warm weather promises to hold, it is probable that the existing rates will remain unchanged for several weeks.
