PALMER BEATS HAINES LOSER CRITICALLY INJURED A TERRIFIC BATTERING SYDNEY, Dec. 28. At the Stadium the middleweight championship of Australia changed hands last night, when Jack Haines, 11.4, collapsed in the twelfth round aftei a. terrific battering by the Victorian, Ambrose Palmer, 11.5^.

Haines was later admitted in St. Vincent’s hospital in a critical condi thin, due to a rupture, of a blood vessel beneath the skull. An operation was performed early this morning, hut his condition is very low.

After 15 three-minute rounds, a featherweight contest at catch weights between Tommy Donovan (Waitara), featherweight champion, and Johnny Lcckic (Napier), resulted in a draw, a decision which met with the approval of a great majority of the spectators.
