CIVIC GRAFT ALLEGED

SYDNEY SENSATION POLICE AND COUNCILLORS SYDNEY, Dec. 20. Sensational alligations by Joseph Ellison, lately licensee of the Empire Hotel, owned by the City Council, are being investigated by the police. Ellison declares that he paid £BOOO to persons connected with the City Council and members of the police force, the former for the “guarantee” of his tender for the hotel to be successful, and the latter for allegedly winking at breaches of the licensing laws.

The City Council s action in connection with the statements is delayed pending the police report.
