COURT'S JURISDICTION

HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES (Prr prMK Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Th'C opinion that the court had jurisdiction to act was expressed by Mr. E. Page, R.M., in a reserved judgment in the case of the Hutt County Council applying for the magistrate to apportion heavy traffic fees among local bodies in the Wellington district.

The application had been concurred in. by the Wellington City Council and the Upper Hutt Borough Council, but the remaining local authorities raised the question of jurisdiction of the magistrate to act, and it was -contended that the regulations made by the Governor-General were ultra vires.

"1 am of the opinion," said Mr. Page, "that the regulations are valid, and that this inquiry should proceed."
