THURSDAY COMPETITION NOMADS V. DEFENCE But for tho rain necessitating the match being abandoned and a, draw declared, Defence probably would have secured a victory over Nomads at (be Oval yesterday afternoon, for when play ceased Defence bad compiled 69 without the loss of a wicket in reply to Nomads’ first innings total of 105. McLauclilan took five wickets for 34, and Griffiths three for 39. McLauclilan with tho willow was equally as successful as ho was with the ball, and when the game was abandoned be was still at the wicket with 35 to his credit, while bis partner, C.
