ROWING
G.R.C. FIRST FOURS FINAL RACE THIS EVENING Ag forecast in an earlier issue, the finalists in the Gisborne Rowing Club’s first trial fours series, to be rowed this evening on the Taruhcru Itiver, are the crews stroked respectively by G. J. Jcune and K. A. Woodward. Woodward’s crew had a bye in the semi-final round, while Jeune’s came through that round successfully by beating 11. Hunter’s four last evening. The semi-final race was not completely satisfactory, for a mishap occurred in H. Hunter’s boat after about half the course had been completed, and though Jcune had a lead of a length and a half at that stage, the interruption spoiled the contest for the public, many of whom waited on the bridge at Derby street to see bow the race resulted. Jcune idled until Hunter was in trim to re-start, and then went on to win. There was no doubt of the superiority of the winning crow, which has now given three convincing performances, and should trouble K. A. Woodward’s four this evening. The two crews in the final arc well balanced, Woodward’s being capable, of sustaining a fust rate of striking right through the race, while Jeune’s is characterised by a fine swing. Their meeting should he full of interest.
