THIRD PARTY RISK AMENDED REGULATIONS (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Amended regulations defining the scale of ices for third-party motor insurance contain definitions of a private car, insurable for £l. which settle hist year's controversies. There was a doubtful line of demonstration between cars used exclusively lor private purposes and those also used'by the owner on business journeys. Many motorists were thus obliged lo> pay £1 10s for a business car.
They are definitely in the lower category for the future, as private cars are officially defined as follows: (a) If used hy the owner or by any other person for the carriage of the owner, bis family, relatives, or friends, for the purposes of pleasure, or for private or domestic purposes within the meaning of this paragraph merely by reason of its being used tov the carriage of any person to and Irom his place of business, or the place where he exercises his profession or calling; (b) if used by the owner for the purpose of making personal calls in relation to his profession or calling; (c) if used by religious or social workers in Che course of their religious or social work; (d) if use I by medical practitioners for the purposes of their profession; (e) if used by farmers in connection with their farming operations; (f) if used in connection with the work of any public or private hospital or charitable institution, by, or on account of the board or other authority controlling such hospital or institution: (g) if used as an ambulance for the carriage of sick or injured persons.
