AUOKLANDER'S BELIEF DRAWINGS EXHIBITED DONE UNDER STRANGE "URGE." Mrs. de Cossey is a- spiritualist, and mentioned the drawings when referring to the recent death in London of Mr. W. H. .Atkinson, formerly of Auckland, whose drawing's wore said to bo associated witli spirit control. Sho said that she could not do a stroke of drawing until 10 years ago, but then the urge came to her. just what the urge is may not be plain to people who do not understand spiritualism. Mrs. de Cossey explained that it camo like inspiration, and when it whs due she felt it in the mornings when she awoke. She said that she had come to the conclusion that, her "control" is l an old Italian master painter, and when she was drawing she had a feeling that he' was by her side. Nevertheless', even if a knock camo to I lie door while a- drawing was in progress,, she could leave- the work. She believed that all her drawing knowledge lififl come from a spirit guide. Mrs. de Cossey said that there were others in Auckland who drew under spirit control. One was a young woman, who had made some wonderful designs stained windows of temples—from the influence of a planchetfe hoard. In exhibiting some, of her workcrayon drawings and pastel—Mrs. die Cossey said that they were done; with (me finger, and as she had been told that the drawings showed promise she had decided'.,to take some lessons in technique.
