VARIED ACTIVITIES

BIG GATHERING AT WAIMATA

Over 70 young men are attending the Easter camp held by the Gisborne branch of the Young Metis Christian Association on the property of Messrs. Kenway Bros, at Waimata, about 6J miles from Cray's Bush. The cam]), whim commenced on Thursday night, is considered one of the largest and most successful of its kind held in Poverty Bay. It is encouraging to the association to receive such generous support from those interested in the movement, the offer by Messrs. Kenway Bros, to provide meat, milk, ami firewood being especially appreciated. The camp is conducted on up-to-date lines, and is lighted by electricity, while nothing has been spared to make the occasion an outstanding success. The St. John Ambulance Association's nursing division is represented 'by Mrs. Silverwood. ami .Mrs. S. Kingston is acting in the capacity of camp mollier. .Mr. X. Kingston, general secretary, is in charge of the camp, and lie lias with him the following officials: Camp padre, Rev. L. C. M. Donaldson, of Sydney; camp registrar. Mr. 11. B. Lowe;" camp sergeant-major and musical director, Mr. J. Oarrington-Wcllhy; group leaders. Rev. L. C. M. Donaldson, Rev. Stanley .Murray, and Messrs. E. 11. Forge, If. B. Lowe. S. Kingston, and 0. Porter: commissariat, Mr. C If. Koole.

Yesterday morning, after breakfast and camp inspection, the study circle, led by Mr. Donaldson, met at 10 o'clock, anil in the afternoon the campers were, taken for a tramp over the hills, during which a nature study session was held. Last evening the lads attended a church service, after which community singing was conducted by Mr Ciirringtoii-Wellby. A large bonfire was built last night, and the reflection from this lit up the whole camp.

Instructional work on Y.M.C.A. matters formed the greater part of to-day's studies, while this afternoon a football match took place between teams reprc scnting the various Bible classes and ilie rest of the camp. A camp concert will he held to-night, and (here will be a church service to-morrow morning by 'Mr. V. 11. Forge. Tomorrow afternoon a model Bible class will he held, al which the nature study of the iirsl day will ho developed, A Communion service will be held tomorrow evening, and the camp sports meeting will take place on Monday afternoon, the morning being devoted to finalising preparations for the various competitions. A handsome black and red plush banner has been donated by Mr. S. H. Phillips, and this will bo presented to the Bible class gaining most, points for tqnt. inspection, athletic ability, and general tidiness. The camp will break up after break fits! on Tuesday.
