ALLEGED THEFT

AUCKLAND, last night

Delective-Sergent Doyle yesterday arrested in the City Domain, Daniel Petty, a middle-aged man, a storeinan, on theft charges. Later, when Petty appeared at the Police Court lie was charged that, on divers dates between 6'ct.dbe.r ;.uid April 10 last, he stole 1{)8 bags of chaff, oats, and wheat, of a total value of £214, the property of the National Mortgage and Agency Co. Detective-Sergeant Kelly obtained a remand until April 24. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., granted bail in tlu' sum of £IOO anil one surety of £IOO, but he refused the application for suppression of the name. "Why," he said, "a man might leave this court with these charges hanging over his head and obtain credit."
