RESERVE BANK SCHEME REPLY TO CRITICISM SYDNEY, April .10. The Federal Treasurer, Mr. E. G. Theodore, replying to the criticism of the Victorian banks, denies the statement that the concentration of reserves under the proposed Central Bank will reduce the funds available to carry on the activities of trading banks. On the contrary, it Will increase these resources, and make them more liquid. Mr. Theodore added that the time was never more opportune for a central reserve bank in Australia. It was quite incorrect to say. tJmt a central bank would cause a. financial disturbance. This could only occur if the banks resorted to obstructive' tactics, which he could not believe they would do.
