The next mayor will not only be expected to reorganise Chicago’s government, which now contains 417 local governing bodies, but will also be the chief executive for Chicago’s great International Exposition, “The World’s Fair,” which will open in 1033, and which, Chicago hopes, will prove its greatness and efficiency. “SAVING THE HOMES.” Mayor Thompson desires to obtain the Republican nomination and serve a fourth term, and he is organising his campaign as “the saviour of the little homes.” The new tax assessment plan reduces the value of the business section of the city by £60,000,000, which will mean additional taxation for the small residential sections, and Mr. Thompson is fighting this proposal.
