COOK COUNTY COUNCIL

THE MONTHLY MEETING The Cook County Council met to-day, there being present: <r. Cl'ias. Matthews, chairman, Crs. J. Tomblcsop, F. S’. Bowen, 0. Gibson, G. Witters, E. Benson, and M. L. Holden. Crs. M. T. B. .Hall and E. ft. Baker were not present in view of the extraordinary vacancy caused by Die division of Dm Hangaroa riding into two, the nominations for which -closed at noon to-day. Mr. 0. G. Thornton, District Engineer, advised that fin vjiew of the amount already contributed by the interested settlers Die Minister had agreed to the request that the Government find £7OO towards proposed work on Stafford’s road. Two authorities of £6OO, £2 for £l, and £IOO free had been issued. 'Pbe Minister lmd also approved of Die balance of £OOO in the existing vote being transferred to Taliunga road for the purpose of providing a top course of metal, as far as the money would go, on the old metal section, south of Stafford’s road turn-off. An authority for £3OO free had been issued direct to the council for this. “That is very satisfactory indeed,” commented the chairman.—The overseer was instructed to prepare the proposals. The county ranger, Mr. E. A. Cameron, reported that 124 head of stock bad been impounded for the month ended April 12
