The ingredients required are: A bivakfustcup plain flour, three-quarter cup sugar, four eggs, a pinch of salt, a teaspoon of baking-powder, and a heaped teaspoon of butter in three tablespoon,s of boiling water. Beat the eggs well for five minutes, add the pinch of salt, then grad mil ly add Die sugar, and beat for another seven minutes. The sugar should be dissolved by then, and the mixture thick. Have the water with the butler in on the stove, almost ready to boil. Sift the Hour and bakingpowder. then fold lightly into the eggs and sugar, add the boiling water, ami mix lightly until smooth. Grease sandwich-tins, divide the. mixture, and hake in n moderate oven for 25 minutes. Put. one tin on the top shelf of the oven, and the other Immediately under it. Do not; open the oven for at least 10 'minutes, and, as it begins to brown, lessen the heat fnr the last 15 minutes, and change the position of the tins. When cooked, 1 urn on lo cake-cooler.
