FRANCE'S WAR SCARS

NOW DISAPPEARING PRESERVATION OPPOSED LONDON, March 1. France's war devastation has now disappeared, except in regions that are to be officially preserved as monuments of ihe great struggle. The work oi restoration is nearly complete. Prefects of French Departments affected by tin war meet in Paris next week to wind up the task of reconstruction. However, according to the Paris correspondent of the Times, a good many cathedral churches and official buildings are still unfinished, and hero and there ruins have yet to bo cleared away. Rheims has recovered from its bombardment to a remarkable extent, and many of the smaller towns familiar to British soldiers Jhave been rebuilt as nearly as possible in the style they formerly possessed. A curious fact about restoring the devastated regions is that French soldiers do not want remnants of trenches to be preserved, and public opinion in France as a whole would liko to see every trace of the war's scars removed.
