AN EXPANDING BUSINESS

MR H. STUBBS' INNOVATION WEEKLY PRODUCE AUCTIONS A produce mart where weekly auctions bring producers and consumers together for the purpose of trade in small lots is the ambition of Mr. ITStubbs, who recently was granted a license to conduct auctions, and who proposes to bring his idea into practice almost immediately. He sees in the near future the realisation of hi:; scheme, embodied in the regular auctioning of fruit, vegetables, cereals and poultry in his Gladstone road premises, which he is having specially fited for the purpose. Mr. Stubbs' energy is well known, and there should be a considerable amount of interest in the success of his new departure in connection with his old established business of dealer. Long experience of the auction business .with Mr. Fred Gray is among the qualifications which should help Mr. Stubbs to .success in his new role. He has developed, under the tuition of Mr. Gray and by the practice of his business as general dealer, a keen sense of values and of the public, re- < quirements. He beneves that the public demand of the moment is for a mart where sma.« lots of produce and poultry are, dealt with, and where the thrifty housewife may pit her judgment of values against that of others, and buy in a strictly competitive market". The produce-growers should welcome the new mart as much as the housewives, for it will represent for them a medium for the realisation of their surplus of poultry, fruit, grain, and vegetables, with the minimum of trouble to themselves. The object of Mr. Stubbs' new departure is'to reduce for both major parties to a sale the details that either Make the profit out of a trade or make the profit hard-earned. By thus 'shouldering part of the burdens of one.h partv. he considers he will be oiling the'wheels of small commerce depending on a. considerable turnover to develop his own profits to the paying strndard. [n addition to the weeklv sales a< his business premises, Mr. Stubbs will undertake furniture sales and clearances at private addresses, placing his experience and energy at the services of the public in such directions as arc covered by an auctioneer's license.*
