Provision had been made for footpath work in the estimates to the extent of 5000 square yards, or 1.14 chains, and of this 1276 sq. yds., or 20 chains, had been done. The remaining So chains, Mr. Young proposed to construct in the following local* ties:— (1) Gladstone road: Roebuck road to Herbert road, north side, 13 chains: Roebuck road to Dominion road. 12 chains. (2) Cobden street: Childers rond to Kahutia street, west side. 14 chains. (3) Disraeli street: Gladstone road to Childers road reserve, west side. S chains. (4) Grey street: Kahutia street to railway, east side, 14 chains. (;1) Ormond road: Whitmorc street to Pox street, west side. 24 chains. The Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, stated that a. deputation of residents from the top end of Gladstone road had waited upon him complaining of the condition of the footpath in that locality, which had recently been raised by the council, and shingled. Tt was a oucstion whether the footpath should be bituminised right up to Lvtton road, or, in any case, further than proposed by the engineer. Cr. S. V. Beaufoy mentioned the Plight street footpath on the west side as one which required early attention, and he moved that the whole matter should be referred to the works committee. The motion was carried, but it was resolved that the engineer empowered to proceed with works Nos. 1 and 5.
