This difficulty has now been solved and the builders of the machine and engineers arc. confident of its ability to set up ;i new speed record. The attempt, will be made at Felixstowe. ,\ London message on January 27 stated: Sadi Lccointe, the French ace, and Paillard, the pilot, are practising high-speed, flying, at Bordeaux, using a, 600 horse-power monoplane in. readiness for testing a faster and more powermonoplane, in which Lecointe expects to attack in February the world speed record of 357.7 miles an hour, held hy the British flyer, Squadron-Leader Orlebar. Meanwhile, Britain is preparing to challenge any new record. The Grloster.Napier machines, used in the Schneider Cup race, are being modified to give greater speeds, and Squadron-Loader Urlebar and Flight-Lieutenant Stainloeth. who were both members of Britain's last Schneider Gup loam, are in training in readiness to pilot them if the British record is broken.
