REMARKABLE CHANGE
TRANSPORTATION SPEED AIR SERVICE IN AMERICA (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. The remarkable change effected in the speed of transportation in Central America by the introduction of air services was one of the chief impressions received by Mr. C. M. Falconer during his recent tour of that part of the world. Mr. Falconer arrived at Auckland from Panama by the Tamaroa yesterday. ''You can do in an hour or two a journey which formerly would have taken several days," ho said. "The best example which I can quote is the journey from Colon to Bogota, the capital of Colombia, which is being done in two days by aeroplane, although it takes anything from 10 days to four weeks to do it by water, the exact time depending on the amount of water in the Magdalena river. "An exciting experience, which narrowly escaped being a disaster, befell Mr. Falconer when proceeding by air from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, to the east coast. Owingi to bad weather, a forced landing had to be made in mountainous country, and it was accomplished without injury to the four passengers or pilot. They were told afterwards that by a stroke of good fortune the 'plane had been within reach of the only place where a land ing was possible without crashing. The journey, which should have taken an hour in the air, occupied a day and a half. By the time the party reached the coast, newspapers had published a story that a very bad smash had occurred, two passengers being killed, and tho others seriously injured.
