BUSH FIRES
ALARM IN VICTORIA
MUCH GRASS BURNED

A forest fire, in the Snowy River district* near Orbost, has assumed alarming proportions. The lire crossed the river and destroyed stocks of railway sleepers and a cutter's plant, also a large area. of grass. •Serious bush fires threaten the grass in the Mount Wellington district.
A farmer named llayward went out to fight a bush blaze in tho Black Ranges near Slawell and when he returned he found his six-roomed house burned, believed to be due to beeswax loft melting on the stove boiling over.
