HAWKE'S BAY RAM FAIR
CONCLUDING PURCHASES STUD ROMNEYS FOE WAIROA The Ilawke's Bay ram fair concluded on Saturday with an offering of stud animals, four of which wore purchased by a Wairoa breeder, Mr. E. Jefferson, who paid '43gns. for a Romney. The last of the flock rams were offered on Friday, most of the purchases from the Poverty Bay and Wairoa end being made by Wairoa men. 'For the sale of studs the attendance of buyers, was somewhat small and the bklding was very slow. As a result many offerings were passed in at prices under the owners' estimates of values, whilst others even failed to draw tho minimum bid of 10 guineas. Even for the better quality stock there was not a great amount of competition, although the top price for the day went up to 80 guineas, this being a Southdown shearling offered by Mr. W 7. J. • Gimblett, of Ngatarawa and purchased by Thompson Bros., of Hastings. The Romnev prices were topped by Mr. Fred Douglas, of Elsthorpe, who paid 55 guineas for a shearling offered by William Perry and Sons, Masterton. | Tho market for flock Southdowns was fairly good, and buying was keen for: classy lines. Many were sold ,at very j satisfactory prices,' the highest price, 13gns., being paid for 12 shearlings bred b v Mr G. E. Allen, Masterton, and sold on his account to Mr 1 . W. iA. D. Sulli-' van Mangatahi. The next best price was 12|gns. paid by Mr. A. Struthers, of Hastings, for five shearlings bred by Mr. R. M. Perry, of Masterton.
