TROWERN-MORGAN MATCH RACE WEEK ATTRACTION So unmistakable wore the evidences uf satisfaction given by boxing followers in connection with the recenttournament staged by • the Gisborne Boxing Association that that body feels confident of strong support for the rarenight tournament at which Reg. Trowern and Ted Morgan will provide the principal fare. The match is one that many associations throughout the country have been endeavoring to secure, and the Gisborne association is fortunate in having gauged some time ago the drawing capacity of Trowcrii and Morgan. The pair were signed up some months ago, hut owing to an injury suffered by Trowern the match did not eventuate at the time arranged; nevertheless, the 'mixers agreed to appear before Gisborne's boxing enthusiasts at a. suitable date, and the selection of February 14 seems to he a happy choice. In Reg. Trowern the Dominion has one of the, most likeable lighters produced in the last few years. Jle is sunny tempered and serene in all circumstances, but he regards lighting as a. business in which a man has to make his way as quickly as possible. It cannot be said that in his dealings with t lie Gisborne association he lias made the financial terms his chief consideration ; he lias shown every degree of willingnessi to meet the wishes of the association as to the date of the fight, and the choice of Ids opponent. Ho made one previous appearance in the district, when he fought before the Waikohu association, now defunct, and he created an impression of restless energy, and lighting ability that has been "fully endorsed by his subsequent dwings in the ring throughout New Zealand and in the Australian capitals. Trowern is a busy lighter of the type to please the spectators, and his appearance here should he an important event in the boxing calendar. The ring career of Ted Morgan was already well advanced when he turned over to- professionalism, for lie had won Olympic honors in his class, and had conclusively proved himself far superior to any of the amateurs within reasonable range of his own weight. Me. too, has made one previous appearance here, m an exhibition hunt not long after his return from Amsterdam : his work on that occasion was characterised by a degree of speed and precision that was fascinating to watch, and it may he assumed that since his entry into' the professional ranks he lias made himself master of such phases of ringcraft as lie then Jacked. Ho should he well able to extend Trowern, if not to heat him, and their match should be one of the best available in New Zealand to-day. Recent developments in the amateur world suggest that the preliminaries to the principal bout will ho full of intertest, as a large number of newcomers to the ring are showing promise and ambition, while several of the better-known amateur boxers are preparing themselves for the tournament.
