Renewed gales along the coast and extending inland are responsible for considerable damage, tearing off roofs and uprooting large trees. A house collapsed at Manchester, burying a mother and her daughter beneath the debris and injuring four children. The German steamer Hermione was overwhelmed in the Channel, bat tho crew, the captain and his wife and child were rescued spectacularly after a struggle by the Margate lifeboat, Tho waterlogged steamer drifted before tingale a. menace to shipping, but it subsequently was located and anchored.
