THE WEATHER
(Last Night’s Forecast.) A weak anti-cyclone has developed over the eastern Tasman Sea, and is advancing on to New Zealand. A fresh depression is situated over the south-western Tasman, and pressure of the westerly type extends thence to beyond the Southern Australian Bight. Winds light southerly at first, veering again soon to northerly, and freshening from Cook Strait southwards. Seas generally smooth to moderate. Westerly to northerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, moderate generally but freshening in the southern portion; seas moderate. Weather fine generally at first but a renewal of unsettled conditions shortly on the west coast of the South Island. Warm temperatures, but cool 10-niglit. (To-day’s North Island Report.) Blue skies prevailed north of East Capo this morning, Inti elsewhere in the North Island conditions were overcast, with rain at Wanganui. Light southerly breezes were general. The barometer showed little movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and Gisborne 62 degrees, Tauranga 66, Opotiki 69, East Cape 63, Napier 65, Wanganui 57, and Wellington 54. Smooth seas were reported everywhere. (Midday Forecast) The indications are for moderate southerly winds, and veering by west to north. There is a. prospect of fair to cloudy warmer weather.
