An accident occurred at the intersection with. Childers road, and Lowe street yesterday, when a eyenst, Mrs. Plavell, was knocked down by a light motor van. So tar as is known Mrs. ' Plavell was not injured beyond receiving a shaking, and was able to proceed •home.
Motorists on the high country of the hinterland found the hills swathed in heavy fog this morning, the conditions necessitating the most careful manipulation oL cars. On Gentle Annie, a .party travelling to Gisborne met another car with the headlights burning in a vain attempt to illumine the fog and’improve the visibility. At the foot of the hill road, heavy rain was experienced, but nearer town the Toads were perfectly dry. Sitting in chambers this week, Ilis Iloiior Mr. Justice Ostler granted probate in deceased persons’ estates as follows: In the estate of Blanche Evelyn Brett, of Gisborne, to William Henry Brett, cn the motion of Mr. J. S. Wauchop; in the estate of John O’Grady, of Gisborne, farmer, to John O’Grady and Da..id Joseph Parker, on the motion of Mr. T. A. Coleman. Administration in the estate of Bamuel \ Roland Revill, of Waipaoa, engineer, \was granted to Lillian Mabel Revill, on the motion of Mr. Coleman.
The departmental inquiry, arising out of recent Police Court proceedings, which has been in progress since Wednesday in connection with the Telegraph Department in Gisborne, concluded at 6 o’clock last evening. Lengthy evidence was given at the inquiry, the proceedings commencing at 9 a.in. on each of the three days, and continuing until 10 o’clock on the first two nights. A. D. Thomson, a former stipendi-
magistrate aryl one-time assistant Service Commissioner, presided, and the Crown Prosecutor of Welling- . ton, Mr. P. S. R. Macassey, appeared on behalf of the department, local counsel also being engaged in the proceedings. Messrs. Thomson and Macnssep left- for Wellington this morning.
