KAITARATAHI DISPLAY KEEN INTEREST SHOWN Tho Jinnunl sliow in connection with tlie Kaitavatnhi Horticultural Society, the seventh of the annual series, was held to-day at Ihe public hall in the township. There was an excellent attendance* and very keen interest was shown in the display of flowers, produce. vegetables, home industries and needlework,. The committee of the society worked excellentlv and left no stone unturned to ensure tho success of the function. 'The secretary, Mr. Geo rye Crosby, and the lion, treasurer, Mr. tS. bouMicr, showed the officials an oxce)lent*?ead. Tho method of display was perhaps a little below the standard adopted at larger functions of the kind, but considering the Jack of facilities under which the show is organised, the exhibitors and oliicials did very well.
The display was a trifle crowded owing to tho extent of the schedule, as compared with the size of the hall, and this was one of the main drawbacks for the point of view of tho exhibitors.
The judges of the various sections were as under: Roses, miscellaneous art flowers and sweet pens: Messrs. R. 0. Crawford and Cf. F.Darfon. Decorative classes: Mesdamcs A. J. Cameron and W. A. Bowie. Vegetables: Messrs. 0. Gray and F. Figg. Cooking: Mrs. 11. McLcrnon. Needlework: Mesdamcs Feans and Woodward, Essays: Mr. F. Cook. Pencil drawing: M.r. .1. Griffon.
Messrs. A, Thomson and A. McL. .Pirie were the chief stewards, and their experience in staging the exhibits were most valuable. Early awards were: — ROSES. Rose (9 entries) : Miss Orr 1, Mrs. R. H. Renner 1, only award. Six of ono variety (3 entries): Mrs. E. R. Renner 1, only award. Three white roses (3 entries): Mrs. 0. M. Reynolds 1, Mrs. R. 11. Shanks 2. Three pink roses (6 entries): Mrs. Reynolds 1, Mrs. Fade 2. Three red roses (3 entries): Miss Orr I, Mrs. G. M. Reynolds 2. Three yellow roses (3 entries) : Mrs. Reynolds 2, Miss Orr 3; no lirst award. Best scented rose (9 entries) ; Miss Orr 1, only award. Single or hybrid briar rose (l entry) : Mrs. E. R. Rennet- 1.
