WIRELESS TELEPHONY
N.Z. AND AUSTRALIA POSSIBILITY OF SERVICE (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. It is quite possible that New Zealanders and Australians will be telephoning each other across the Tasman very shortly, says the Sun. London talks to Canada and the United States at Ithe rate of £9 a call of three minutes, and the “lines" are in almost constant use. Very shortly Sydney and London will be connected by telephone, and there seems no reason why New Zealand should not soon be talking to both Australia and London.
During the last year enormous advances have been made in the use of the wireless telephone, and experts have dcclarcd-that before many years are out the whole world will he linked by the marvellous means of communication. It is known that an improved short-wave transmitting station is associated with the radio station ZLW, in Wellington, and by this means it should be possible soon to communicate with Australia. The Sydney station, 2ME, which belongs to Amalgamated Wireless, is the station which will convey New Zealand messages through Sydney telephones to people receiving messages from New Zealand. When the sorvice will he opened is not yet known, but a public statement is expected shortly. ' v .
