BOXING
MORGAN-TROWERN BOUT BEST MATCH AVAILABLE One of the principal objects of the Gisborne Boxing Association, during the pyst three yea is lias been to secure the services of only the best professional boxers, and the taut that one match alter another has been dropped during that period, owing to loss of form by one boxer or another, is sufficient evidence of the association s policy. In matching Reg. Trowern and 'Ted Morgan in the professional contest to la* staged at the Opera House next week, the association appears to have clinched the host bout obtainable m New Zealand at present, and it may confidently expected that interest in the tight will extend throughout the Dominion’s boxing circles. Ted .Morgan,, a comparative. newcomer to the professional arena, fought 33 times as ail amateur and won all hut two of ins contests, winding up an outstanding amateur career by bringing homo Olympic honors from Amsterdam. Since turning «over to the professional side of the sport, lie has had four contests, having scored knock-out victories over Steve Hughes (five rounds), Plan Stone (10 rounds) and Bill Carey (nine rounds), and drawing with Reg. Trowel i! in a 13-round contest. His exploit in sharing the honors wilh Trow cm was the most important of his professional achievements, for Trowcrn’s quality is well known. Morgan is reported to he doing very well in his training work, and should lie at his best for the Gisborne, encounter.
Gisborne followers of the sport already have had an opportunity of seeing Trowern in action, and since the date of his appearance at To Karaka he lias made great strides in his profession. He has fought many of the most prominent o! tho Australian ringmen, and has done extremely well throughout his career. The Referee said of him that “when Trowern cares to show his best boxing, it is tho best that has been seen here (Sydney) since the days of Spargo.” In view of Spargo’s recognised worth, this is in itself a compliment out of the ordinary, and its source is likewise authoritative. Trowcrn’s record, of course, speaks for itself. His style is highly interesting, and he makes a contest of it right throught the piece. He is clever and pugnacious, giving his opponents little time to take breath from gong to gong. For Morgan, he seems to be the ideal opponent, and the tight at Gisborne will be outstandingly attractive.
